Monday. Monday, Monday

I hope all of you guys had a great couple of weeks since my last post. I have had a great several days and I am looking forward to more good times and profitable experiences in the near future.

Here are some points that I wanted to update everyone on:

Labs related: I am still looking to get some development help with the comps exchange. We are still letting the idea "germinate", but hopefully we'll get it rolling some enough.
I have been fiddling with David Braun's regression tool he has in excel, and i am very impressed with it. I have actually been using it in the real world a bunch. It has given me back some really good data, and it is pretty close to where it needs to be with established values for a given neighborhood.

Business Related: I will be attending The FNC Appraisal Port Convention in DC the later part of this week. Before anyone starts tossing produce at me, I am not exactly a fan of them, but they are so large that I pay attention to what they do, and what directions they are heading. They are focusing strongly on collateral stuff, and as such I have been gearing my office in that direction as well.

Personally: I got to see David Beckham debut in DC a week and a half ago, and I was excited to see someone of his caliber playing in the MLS. Whether you are a fan or not, he is arguably as big a catalyst as Magic Johnson was for the early says of the NBA. Just as an example, the New York game this past weekend went from and average attendance from around 12,000 to over 66,000 to see "Becks" play. He really is that big a deal.

Hope to hear from you guys soon, and i pray that you all stay busy. If I can be of any assistance please feel free to email me.

As a power user I'm frustrated with the lack of data integration tools available in WinTotal, including MLS and tax system data integration into the comps database or directly into subject and comp form cells. The current template tools can be made to work, but don't update your version of WinTotal if you depend on these templates for your office productivity as the emumeration of WinTotal field names changes randomly between releases and there's no migration tool to eliminate template re-writes.

If there is someone technical there who can speak to someone technical here I would welcome a dialog on the topic of data integration from outside sources into WinTotal forms. For starters, how about a simple XML interface?

Also, I haven't stumbled into an Armstrong blog yet but if you could pass tihs along to the appropriate person. Please, Please, Please don't underwhelm us again by using another bloated, insulated, layered development language like C#!!! Dump .Net and get some pro C++ folks. You'll get a substantial performance jump and when implemented by people who know how, you can avoid the "issues" noted as reasons for chosing C# (like the often cited memory leaks). As someone who wrote and managed development of large scale C and C++ applications over 25+ years (many on Windows platforms) I speak with authority on this. If you're going to rewite WinTotal (especially the forms engine), bite the real bullet and really do it right. You'll be glad in the long run you made the investment now in a stable, industry standard and fast development language.

Thanks for the opportunity to vent a little.

He Gregg -

Thanks for the comment. Data integration with WinTOTAL is a hot topic for us here at a la mode, too. One of the ways we're addressing that is by expanding our VIP program to include data providers. Once that platform is built, any data provider will be able to integrate with WinTOTAL at their own discretion. It's a beautiful thing.

On our choice of C#, we're commited to that development platform already, and from what I've already seen it was the right way to go. The new stuff is really cool, and much more stable and reliable than our current VB products.

You're more than welcome to contact me directly via e-mail at paul@alamode.com if I can be of any further insight.

Thanks,
